Our front lawn, before:

And our front lawn(or lack thereof), after:

The road department is repaving our road. Apparently this includes cutting down all our trees and digging out our flower bed and ripping away half of our very small front lawn. I'm trying not to complain too much but I feel like our living room now sits in the middle of the road.

There will be some definite replanting of trees in our very near future. Unfortunately, they won't really help anything for another twenty years or so.

That is a bummer, we will have that problem here someday too. We started trees about three years ago to help hopefully.

I'm so sorry Heidi! I feel so bad for you guys! Why couldn't they have done that on the other side of the road. =} Did they save any trees like they said they would for ya??

Where do you live? It looks familiar. Just put up a nice privacy fence. It will sort of fix things and lots of climbing things.

Yes, they saved the lilac bush. And they dug up the flowers and put them gently on the lawn so we could save what we wanted.

I wanted to put up a six foot cedar privacy fence around the whole acre that the house sits on. $$$$$$ Yeah. I told Jay that I'd settle with the front lawn for now. He just grimaces and says, "What you want it to look like a fortress? Would you like coiled barbed wire on top of that?"

Um...yes please. And while we're at it, could I change my mind and have a six foot concrete wall? =)

! That must be so frustrating. Poor yard! We have the same thing about to happen where we're at. They've decided to put an additional lane in and we live basically on the corner of 2 main roads. We have big tall trees out the front of the house and can barely get out of the driveway safely (visibility) as it is, let alone when they chop 3m off our front lawn. :( We cant get rid of the trees because they are so old, and they house populations of stick insects. Because of the traffic light changes, we will only be able to access our house from 1 out of 4 directions-! Oh, and for 8 weeks all the road work will be taking place between 9pm-6am. I know its a community road issue...but I feel violated somehow!

Maybe you can console yourself by sneaking out and handprinting the gutter while it dries? Thats what Im thinking of doing! Where are they gonna move your mailbox? Will they re-erect it for you? *scowl*
