Soccer

Rowan's first soccer game was sometime in May. It is the only game of his season that I photographed. But I'm so glad I did. Keep your eye on number 2 with the red socks. That's our boy and we're pretty proud of him.

Here's Coach Brady.
We love Coach Brady.
He did an excellent job with the kids & Rowan learned a lot.
Adam's goal is to be taller than Brady someday.
Rowan says, "Ummmm, I think I'll just be taller than Daddy."
Those are my boys, the optimist & the realist.

Anyway, the team started with stretches.

You guys ready to practice?

This is the look I got when I cheered,
"Go Number 2!"

I have no idea what is going on in this picture. Rowan loves to be the class clown so I'm sure it had something to do with that.

If they had played with a goalie, Rowan would have been their guy.
He hovered near the opposing team's net during most of the games,
determined not to let them score.

Go Doritos!

Good job, guys.

It was a really fun season for all of us. Rowan is very disappointed that he can't play this fall but we promised his brother basketball and I don't think I can do both. Next year I might be able to do a little more but we have a full schedule already this year with the new co-op/curriculum, vacation, toddler, basketball, and normal everyday stuff.

I think the Doritos won two games the whole season. I didn't get to see Rowan score a goal until the very last game. It was so exciting! He had scored one the game before but I had missed that game.

It is so fun moving into the next phase of life with these kiddos. We are doing a juggling act now with having little ones & bigger ones but it is so amazing to be in this stage of life. Soon we will be out of the baby stage completely so I am trying to soak up every moment of that but still really enjoy where the older kids are at. It is a challenge at times but we wouldn't have it any other way.

typical

I know that I said Rowan's first game pictures were next but I'm nothing if not random & unreliable. Huh. Guess I should probably work on that. Good thing I'm not creating a resume. I don't think random & unreliable are in very high demand.

Anyway,

I have hit, yet another roadblock in the completion of my daughter's room. I decided that I need money in the end. Who knew? Things actually cost money. Fortunately I did find some things around the house that I can repurpose so that helps some. And I do intend on making a few things as well. But I also decided that I should get some input from the girl herself since it's, you know, her room. She was very confident in her choices. Pink walls, a blue nightstand, a blue closet, and a red treasure chest. Hmmmm. Besides the obvious question of, how in the heck do you give a kid a blue closet?, we have one tiny major problem. Her mama, she's an old-fashioned, neutral sort of girl. Like, uncompromisingly so. (Who needs English?) And I pretty much detest super bright rooms and I pretty much want the whole house to flow together with touches of individuality.(Mostly mine. HA!)

So this is what I'm thinking: beadboard wallpaper
It's bead board wallpaper. Cheaper than actual bead board & we wouldn't have to redo the baseboards. If we did this on the bottom of the walls then we could do the upper portion a very light pink. Pink walls. Check.

French Blue Nightstand
Avril has my old nightstand that my grandpa made for me when I was a little girl. It is white but currently needs a facelift. I am thinking this color of blue would be acceptable & possibly look good with a pale pink. Hers only has one drawer but I'm thinking a crystal handle is in order! Blue nightstand. Check.

Red Tool Box Treasure Chest
This is a coin bank that I could paint a cheery red. Red so does not go with her stuff but it's just a tiny bit. I wish she'd want this:

but she is her own person. And she might get one of these anyway!
Red treasure chest. Check.

Blue Closet. Blue closet. Blue closet?

So I'm thinking I can paint the interior walls of her closet the same color as her nightstand or I can use something to this effect:

to store things inside of her closet.
Ugh. The lover of white inside of me feels nauseous already.

Maybe I could get these and use the nightstand paint on them as well?

or these?

Any ideas on a blue closet are welcome. I may be negotiating this one with her. The terrorist!

I really want to do this on one wall above the "bead board".
How to Finish Embossed Wallpaper With Glaze
We could paint it pink or we could leave it the same color as the bottom half. It might also be pretty on the ceiling in white. Jay may kill me if I suggest it. And honestly, I'm not entirely sure that wall paper will work at all with our textured drywall. In which case I will do this:

It actually looks really simple. Especially since Jay will have to do all but the painting part!
Of course this won't look quite as good with the textured walls either but I am thinking that it won't be that noticeable.

And I think I'm going to make it taller, chair rail height. That way her pink bed will be against the white & not the pink wall.

I had plans of white lace curtains but I am wondering if it will make it too "busy" looking. If I do the textured wall paper on the wall it might be but if it's on the ceiling it may not matter. Not sure about that.

Her bedding is white with pink & blue floral print. Very Pretty. With the colors that she's wanting it actually goes really well but I am wondering if we should switch to all white bedding to keep a bit of neutral/farmhouse/simple to her room.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how we can make all of this work in her room & still keep both of us satisfied.

I would love tips, suggestions, or ideas.

If I did it all my way it would something like this:
iron bed

old doors

Pretty for a girl room, but I can see making a boy room just as easily. It would also work well for a guest room.
I guess she keeps it from being dull!

Other areas I need help on are:

Her bed is pink, her nightstand will be blue, but the rest of her furniture is white. Should I paint them as well, or leave them white?

Are lace curtains too much? Should I go with simple white panels?

Her room is tiny and there is a lot of furniture in there. Should I put her kitchen set in our basement school room or leave it in her room?

I really want her to have a chandelier. Know any inexpensive places to find one?

What are your ideas/methods of storing hair supplies? They need to stay in her room, our bathroom is also tiny.

How on earth do I give her a blue closet & a colorful room without gagging every time I see it?
